Reading an image - media codes blog tasks

 1) Analyse this RBK 50 Cent advert using the media codes you learned in the lesson: Technical, Written or verbal, Symbolic or non-verbal, Narrative. Write a paragraph for each one exploring the way meanings are created using those media codes.

-finger print image shows connotations of arrest and crime and 50 cents criminal background, this is very unusual for a brand to highlight this but they maybe want to attract a younger audience that feel like wearing reebok makes them powerful and hard-working.

-the verbal code: I am what I am suggests that 50 cent doesn't hide his criminal background and that he grew up in gangs and violence which can imply to the audience that no matter what you have been through u can still become powerful and rich like 50 cent.

-the font/typographic font suggests medieval and powerful as if u wear reebok it shows a sense of power and hard-working which makes audiences want to wear it.

-the military hat suggests battle, warzone and upbringing and he wears it to shows that he still represents and claims it even though his fame and power.

-creates a narrative code of success from tough upbringing.

-the quote from 50cent  has almost bullet holes in it to show the hard working of 50 cent and nothing can stop him.

-the expression from 50 cent is stern and intimidating with the lighting  on it that shows reebok want you to see his expression as it creates the image that 50 cent has not changed even though his fame.

2) Next, analyse a print advert of your choice using the same media codes: Technical, Written or verbal, Symbolic or non-verbal, Narrative.

- the image hitting the ball is similar to the verbal code change history with one strike to emphasise that if someone wears nike they can become as big as they want

- font/typographic, bold and capital letters suggests the importance of this image that they want to get across to the audience

- the image of the person hitting the ball is almost a statue or stuck shows you can change history with one strike all your life and is not a one time experience

- creates a narrative code that no matter your upbringing, you will always have the chance to change history when wearing nike

-the advertisement of nike football on the billboards and having the professional footballers wearing nike influences younger people to buy from nike as they want to be like there idols

- the image that nobody is interfering with the strike shows how only you can write your future and nobody else can change it.
