To spread social awareness In order to attract customers to the media products as audiences may agree with their ideologies

as the industries don't know whether the product is going to fail or succeed and they rely on big hits

6) What is your opinion on the creativity v commerce debate? Should the media be all about profit or are media products a form of artistic expression that play an important role in society?

I think the media should be about both because they of course want to make profit but they also play an important role in society as people watch something like the news for their information

usage of horizontal and vertical integration

I agree that the cultural industries reflects the inequalities and injustices of wider society and the people behind the media products should be given more recognition and more profit

the process through which news is translated into a commodity, or a good or service designed to earn its producer a profit when it is sold in the market

11) Do you agree with the argument that while there are a huge number of media texts created, they fail to reflect the diversity of people or opinion in wider society?

I agree that the media products fail to reflect the diversity of people because they are supposed to relate to the audience, so they become engaged. However, most media products are general and original.

12) How does Hesmondhalgh suggest the cultural industries have changed? Identify the three most significant developments and explain why you think they are the most important.


Hesmondhalgh suggests cultural industries have undergone serious changes from 3 factors digital transformation, globalisation and convergences of media platforms. These factors are the most important as they illustrate the nature of cultural industries and the impact on society.
