Magazines: Front cover production task - learner response
Create a new blogpost called 'Magazine cover learner response' and complete the following tasks:
WWW: You have created and submitted a solid magazine cover that is definitely recognisable as Four Four Two and I also agree with your evaluation in terms of how it could be improved. The cover image is strong in terms of camera shot, direct address and pose – it is just lacking the football kit as you point out in your blogpost. I love the fact the image obscures the magazine title too – an excellent professional touch. The cover lines also read pretty well and tone/style is so important when it comes to creating an authentic media product.
EBI: One key issue is the size of the page – yours isn’t A4 portrait and is more square than the real Four Four Two magazine. It’s really important to get basics like that right when creating media products. Although the cover lines read well, they need to be positioned on the page in a more professional manner – for example, consistently right- or left-aligned depending on which side of the page they are on. There are also questions in terms of text size and what relates to the main story / cover image (e.g. who is the ‘rising star’? There is nothing to contextualise that or anchor the image). The red text on the cover isn’t always legible either and that is a crucial aspect of design.
