OSP assessment learner response

 1. Type up your feedback in full (you don't need to write the mark and grade if you want to keep this confidential).

21|34 grade: c

www: clear q2 essay which offers a lot of theories relevant to the osp csps, structurally essay is spot on

ebi: q2 requires other relevant csps synoptic which you have studied throughout the course to develop your argument. Q1 develop analysis and revise myth semiotics from year 12

2. Read the whole mark scheme for this assessment carefully (posted on your Google Classroom). Identify three specific aspects from Figure 1 (the Bioshock Infinite game cover) that you could have mentioned in your answer (e.g. selection of images, colour scheme, text etc).

- Myth of the lone hero / individualism: Booker’s solitary figure with a gun underlines the
cultural myth that a single individual (often male) stands to make a difference, to confront
systemic problems. This ties into Western heroic narratives.
- Myth of technological utopia/dystopia: The presence of the zeppelin and the sky points to a
mythic vision of human progress — a city in the clouds — but the burning flag suggests that
this progress may come at a moral or political cost.
- Zeppelin / airship: Connotes an alternate-history, steampunk or early 20th-century
technological aesthetic. It emphasizes the “floating city” idea — Columbia is not a typical
city, but one suspended in the sky.

3. Now use the mark scheme to identify three potential points that you could have made in your essay for Question 2 (Jenkins - participatory culture or Curran and Seaton's - concentration of ownership).

- Representation of Black British communities is shaped by real-time analytics — illustrating
Hall’s encoding/decoding model, as editors respond to dominant and negotiated readings
online.
- Social media amplification of certain stories reflects Gerbner’s cultivation theory: repeated
digital representations can shape perceptions of communities. The Voice arguably plays an
important role in offering a more diverse range of values and ideologies in offering Black
British audiences’ representations that more closely reflect their experience of life in Britain.
If The Voice offers black audiences, the opportunity to see representations that are not
created by media producers that are overwhelmingly white (and middle class) then it is
arguably offering an important service to British culture despite its low production values or
YouTube view counts.
- Re-recordings of her albums demonstrate Hesmondhalgh’s analysis of artists resisting media
conglomerate control, reclaiming ownership through digital distribution.

4. Write down two other CSPs from across the course that you could have referenced in your essay which link to digital convergence in relation to production, distribution and consumption and how they have impacted their products.

Sephora and old town road can be used to show how digital convergence has influenced production, distribution and consumption

5. Use your exam response, the mark scheme and any other resources you wish to use to write a detailed essay plan for Question 2. Make sure you are planning at least three well-developed paragraphs in addition to an introduction (thesis statement) and conclusion.

P1- introduction/thesis statement which focuses on the question and give your opinion
P2- Taylor Swift: industry and audience
P3- The voice: industry and audience
P4- Direct your argument to other csps e.g old town road, GQ, gentlewoman, Sephora and score hair cream

6. Finally, identify three key areas you plan to revise from the OSP unit before the January mock exams (e.g. CSP elements of media theories) having looked at your feedback from this assessment.

Semiotics going over year 12 blog posts, revise synoptic questions using different csps, revise media theories relevant to the question
